Whether it begins with a sunrise service or a mid-day brunch, Easter is an excellent opportunity to spend time with your family. You and your loved ones can enjoy many exciting Easter family activities—even beyond treat-filled baskets.

Check out our 10 Easter family activities to inspire a new twist on your plans this year!

1. Deviled egg contest

What else are you going to do with all those hard-boiled eggs? Turning them into deviled eggs is more craft than cooking, and there are endless variations. Look up recipe variations, pick up all the necessary ingredients from your favorite grocery chains like Albertsons or Giant, and let everyone get down to deviling.

Boost the fun factor by inviting guest judges (friends and neighbors) and including silly award categories like “Best Use of Pickles” and “Weirdest Color” so that everyone comes away as a winner.

2. Make it a STEM Easter

Easter craft ideas are plentiful, but did you know you can also make Easter family activities a science opportunity? Try one of these fun science experiments:

3. Eggs around the world

There are endless ways to eat eggs. This year, before you boil them all, take a look at sources like Beryl Shereshewsky’s The Ultimate Guide to Egg Dishes Around the World or Insider Food’s How Eggs Are Eaten Around The World, and discover a brand-new recipe to make as a family.

4. Learn a new activity together

Springtime and Easter represent the start of something new. So, how about planning an outing to learn a new activity or sport as a family?

Possibilities available near you might include:

  • Archery
  • Pickleball
  • Pinball
  • Axe throwing
  • Disc golf
5. Tea party

If your family enjoys gentile pursuits, consider a dressy tea party complete with Easter hats and gloves, which you can find at Amazon or Walmart. Each member could also take on a unique task, such as:

  • Learning how to select and brew loose tea
  • Correctly setting a formal table with serving ware and silver
  • Trying out calligraphy on invitations, a posted menu, or name cards
  • Learning fancy napkin-folding
  • Setting up a chocolate fondue with strawberries or Peeps

6. Bake together

Preparing for your tea party or brunch is the perfect opportunity to spend time together in the kitchen. Create Easter-themed goodies like:

  • Bird’s nest cookies or cupcakes
  • Hot cross buns
  • Simnel cake with marzipan
  • Carrot cake blondies
  • Easter lamb or bunny cake
7. Dive for eggs

If you have access to a pool, switch from plastic Easter eggs to heavier items for a water-based egg hunt this Easter. We recommend painting palm-sized, fairly flat rocks or metal weights for various difficulty levels—from dappling blues that hide in the water to bright colors that’ll be easy to find.

You can use acrylic paints from a craft store like JOANN or Michaels, plus a sealant to waterproof them once you’re done.

8. Build-your-own omelet bar

Have you been to a buffet with a chef manning a build-your-own-omelet station? Recreate the experience for Easter brunch by assigning age-appropriate tasks to family members:

  • Dicing, slicing, and shredding ingredients
  • Taking orders
  • Cooking the omelets
  • Plating and serving
9. Tune in to rabbit show jumping

Cue up YouTube on the living room TV and search for “rabbit show jumping”. The combination of cuteness and competition will encourage everyone to pick out a favorite, make predictions, or even start up a jelly bean betting pool!

10. Egg hunt extravaganza

An oldie but a goodie, egg hunts are tried-and-true fun—there’s nothing like seeing little ones toddle across an egg and older kids zooming around yelling out their finds. However, egg hunts often fall by the wayside once children hit their teens.

Fortunately, you can recreate the magic by adding new and exciting twists to your egg hunt, like:

  • Turning the event into a town-wide hunt with clues to different locations
  • Placing small-denomination gift card prizes in plastic eggs
  • Incorporating a scavenger hunt that includes various activities participants have to complete to win
